Singapore Chinese Books Alliance

About Us

The Singapore Chinese Books Alliance (SCBA) is formed by local Chinese bookstores, publishers, and cultural partners. It serves as a collaborative platform dedicated to strengthening Singapore’s Chinese reading and publishing ecosystem. The Alliance aims to unite the strengths of the book industry, promote literary engagement, expand reading initiatives, and foster external partnerships. Through these efforts, it seeks to build a sustainable, public-oriented reading culture platform where Chinese books continue to connect people across generations and inspire thoughtful inquiry.

Rooted in Singapore’s Chinese book industry, the Alliance brings together practitioners who believe that Chinese books retain cultural significance, educational value, and contemporary relevance within a multilingual society. Working in tandem, members strive to promote the accessibility and appreciation of Chinese books, support Singapore’s cultural and education goals, and cultivate a reading-friendly environment that embraces a love for reading.

Vision

Mission

As a collaborative effort, the Singapore Chinese Books & Publishing Alliance advances Chinese reading and publishing through the following key objectives:

Flagship Project

The Alliance’s first major collaborative initiative is the co-organization of the inaugural World Book Day . Singapore Chinese Book Fair, held in conjunction with World Book Day initiatives led by Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL) and the National Library Board.

Open for participants of all ages, the book fair is supported by Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning(CPCLL) and the National Library Board(NLB). It will take place from 17 to 22 April 2026 at the Plaza, National Library Building, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily. The fair will feature leading Chinese bookstores and publishers showcasing curated Chinese books and related cultural products.

Complementing national reading initiatives, the Alliance aims to strengthen reading culture, literary engagement, and cultural learning through curated book displays and diverse public programs.

In addition, with the rollout of the Cultural Pass on 1 March—which can be used to purchase local literary works—the Alliance will advocate the use of the Cultural Pass to support local literary works, encouraging the public to support Singapore’s Chinese literary creation and publishing.
